Innovation and aesthetics: the stadium in the form of a flower

Stadium

Kansas City will soon have a state-of-the-art stadium. The most advanced technological innovations will be used to create the roof. The dome panels will be able to open diagonally like a flower.

World-renowned architecture firm HOK last week announced a deal to buy the rights to build Atlanta Falcons stadium in Kansas City from design firm 360 Architecture. HOK’s specialists were primarily interested in the special way the retractable roof works in the future structure. Chairman Patrick MacLeamy said in a press release that the Atlanta Falcons stadium will be one of the most innovative sports facilities.

The retractable roof will consist of eight triangular panels shaped like the wings of a falcon – the symbol of the Atlanta Falcons American soccer team. The panels will slide diagonally, opening and closing like a flower. In addition, vertical louvers will be built into the roof to provide additional lighting and efficient ventilation for the stadium.

Atlanta Falcons stadium will have a total area of nearly 550,000 square feet with a total seating capacity of 71,000. A 17-foot screen will be built into the roof area so anyone can get a clear view of the game no matter where they are in the stadium.

The architects hope that the future stadium will be a catalyst for change in neighboring neighborhoods. It is assumed that parks and recreational areas will soon appear there.
